Grace Chan

Music Therapist

I’m Grace—the founder of Musicgrace, and a Registered Music Therapist and Neurologic Music Therapist. I’m fascinated by the unique capacity of music to impact people’s behaviour and emotions.

I’m passionate about making music.

I have loved music from an early age. I studied piano to an advanced level and have extensive experience as a piano teacher. I have been a pianist and accompanist for local churches and community choirs, and I’m also a proficient accompanist on guitar. My favourite type of music is classical.

I care for communities.

I began my career as a social worker and have been actively involved in community work locally and internationally, including in Thailand, Hong Kong, America and mainland China. For five years, I worked with Everglow Community Care Links Inc. in Townsville, Ingham and Ayr. I collaborated with various community organisations and other allied health professionals to create music therapy programs for people living in the community, to promote health and wellbeing in North Queensland.

I pursue professional excellence.

I hold a Master of Music Therapy (University of Queensland) and a Bachelor of Social Work (Hong Kong Polytechnic University). In 2014 I was appointed as the Community Liaison Officer of the Australian Music Therapy Association, and my first article was published in the Australian Journal of Music Therapy. During the same year, I was awarded a professional scholarship to the World Congress of Music Therapy in Austria.

I founded Musicgrace in 2016 with the aim of bringing high quality music therapy services to the community in Brisbane. Musicgrace is currently partnered with various organisations such as Centacare, Uniting Care, St Vincent’s Care Services, Seabrae Manor, Burnie Brae, Palm Lake Care, St. John’s Community Care, Rockpool Carseldine, Burpengary Manor, Narangba Aged Care, Opal Health Care and Queensland Children’s Hospital etc.

I’m Jason. I am a Registered Music Therapist. I graduated with a Master of Music Therapy at the University of Melbourne. I come from a musical family and have been playing music for most of my life, predominantly as a singer-songwriter. Guitar and voice are my primary instruments.

I have long been inspired by the unique healing potential of music. I have experience practicing in various disability, mental health, and aged care settings, addressing a diversity of individual and group needs.

I value a person-centred and collaborative approach to music therapy practice and goal setting. I am especially passionate about harnessing music to improve mental health, and the collaborative use of music to empower people and support wellbeing.
